City vs Country Australia

Most Australians accept there is a significant difference between "the city" and "the country".

After 13 months travelling across Australia, much of it in the bush, we've learned a thing or two about those differences.

In the bush in Australia...

....people you walk past always say "g'day" and look you in the eye.

...chatting with strangers is completely acceptable... in fact, it's a daily pleasure to meet someone you're unlikely to ever see again.

...when you're driving, you raise a couple of fingers to say "g'day" to almost everyone who passes you heading in the other direction on the highway... (no, not THAT finger...)

...you're super grateful when you get to a town with a supermarket that has more than 3 aisles.

...you're stoked anytime you find fruit and veg that's within 50% of the freshness or price of fruit and veg in town.

....BONUS if said fruit and veg is within 50% on freshness AND price.

...craft beer is literally made in some bloke's back shed.

...petrol at $1.80 per litre doesn't shock you.

...kangaroos are to be ignored... unless they're bounding alongside a road, in which case they are to be avoided.

... the stars in the night sky can't actually be counted.

... beer is the only "staple" that's roughly the same price as in town.

... a night where you don't have paid accommodation is considered a success.

... 2 hours is a short drive.

... a toilet that you don't have to empty yourself is a thing of incredible beauty.

... flies and ants rule this country. No, like, properly rule the country.

... "down South" is defined as anywhere where you can swim without fear of being taken by a croc.

... carrying enough spare parts to service a small fleet of vehicles is considered minimum preparation for a trip out into the "real" bush.

... 4G is... sorry, what is 4G?
